Device Requirements

Supported browsers
findex is a progressive web app using bleeding edge web features (including WebAssembly, OPFS (Origin Private File System), and local storage). Very old browsers or devices, or heavily restricted modes, may not work.
For the best experience, use a current version of one of these browsers:
- Google Chrome (desktop or Android)
- Apple Safari (desktop or iOS)
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
We recommend Google Chrome, as findex is developed and most heavily tested with Chrome.
Sign-in and Google
Sign-in uses Google. Google may block sign-in from embedded browsers inside other apps (for example some in-app web views). If sign-in fails, open findex in Chrome, Safari, or Edge instead.
Storage and private browsing
Your data is stored on your device and, when you use the service, backed up to your Google Drive. Private or incognito windows typically restrict storage APIs that findex needs. On some devices OPFS is not available in private browsing, and the app will not run, so use a normal browser window instead.
Why not a native app?
findex is built as a web app on purpose. That choice means:
- Cross platform: one codebase runs on desktop and mobile browsers, instead of maintaining separate native apps for each platform.
- No app store: you use findex in the browser; there is no install from the App Store or Google Play, and no store policies sitting between us and a release.
- Rapid rollout: fixes and features can go live as soon as they are ready, without waiting for app store review on every update.
- Linking: the same links and bookmarks work on any supported device, so help and sharing stay simple.
- Native-style features: web apps can use file storage, sharing, sensors, media, install to home screen, and much besides. For an extensive list, see What Web Can Do Today.
- Our view: the web is a better platform with a better developer experience.
